Proper use of personal equipment for  protection during Covid-19 (Face Mask).

According to WHO, PPE (personal protective equipment) as used by those in the health sector, community workers and individuals. It ought to be used and taken care of in the right way for prevention of disease and its spread.

Below are a few tips on how to use a face mask.

HOW TO USE A FACE MASK?

- Before handling the face mask, wash your hand under a running clean water with soap for nothing less than twenty seconds. In the absence of soap, use an alcohol based hand sanitizer.

- When you put on the face mask, make sure it covers your nose and mouth area as no gaps is to be allowed.

- Pinch the nose bridge area on the mask to make a curve for effective breathing while also making sure that no gap is allowed between your face and the mask.

- While the mask is on, do not touch, if you do, wash your hands clean with clean running water and soap as you have contaminated your hand.


WHEN TO USE A FACE MASK?

- The face mask is used when attending to a Covid-19 patient and you are not infected. For best results, change the position of the face mask such that the bright green side is showing out and the pale white side showing in.

- If you are having flu like symptoms like  runny nose, sneezing and coughing, please wear the face mask the other way round with the bright green side showing in and the pale white side facing out.


APPROPRIATE DISPOSAL?

Many of us are often mistaken about the proper and effective way to trash a face mask. When disposing our face masks,  remove from the ear area making sure not to touch the fabric. Do not wash, do not re-use. Wash your hand immediately after disposal and replace with a fresh one.

We should be our brother's keeper. That is all that matters after all!
