NBA PRESIDENT ATTENDS THE JUDICIAL PANEL OF INQUIRY HOLDEN IN JOS, PLATEAU STATE; REITERATES THE COMMITMENT OF THE NBA TO PROVIDING PRO BONO SERVICES TO INDIGENT Petitioners - By Dr. Rapulu Nduka - Publicity Secretary, Nigerian Bar Association

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) - Olumide Akpata,  within the week attended the Judicial Panel of Inquiry for Victims of Police Brutality and related Extra judicial Killings Holden in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

During the course of the proceedings, the President gave assurances of provision of legal representation to one Mr. John Osondu, a Petitioner who was presenting his case by himself. This is in furtherance to the initial commitment of the NBA to providing pro bono legal services to indigent citizens at the Panels across the Federation, through the NBA branch structures. Consequent upon this, Mr. Yakubu Bawa, the Chairman of the Jos Branch, entered appearance for Mr. Osondu.

The Chairperson of the Panel, the Hon. Justice Philomena Lot (rtd.), expressed delight at the cooperation of the NBA thus far with the Judicial Panels across the Federation whilst reaffirming the commitment of the panel to doing justice to all the parties before it.

The NBA President further reiterated the commitment of the NBA to act as Amicus Curiae to the judicial panels of inquiry across the Federation, as part of the larger support of the Association to the mandate of the panels.
