Nigeria was certified free from Wild Polio Virus (WPV) on 25th August, 2020 after three consecutive years of reporting no case of WPV. However, there has been an increase in transmission of Vaccine Derived Polio Virus due to low routine immunization coverage occasioned by COVID 19, security challenges and poor access to health care.
In other to curb this, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Lagos State Ministry of Health and Lagos State Primary Health Care Board with support from partners (WHO, UNICEF, CHAI, Rotary International etc) recommend that children 0-5 years receive the novel Oral Polio Virus (nOPV) for two rounds six (6) weeks apart. The Objective is to ensure all children receive two (2) drops of this vaccine irrespective of their previous immunization status.
The vaccination teams will be visiting all households, hospital, schools, churches, mosques, recreational ground, estates, markets, shopping plazas and other places.
This exercise is schedule to hold as follows
Dates: 1st Round; Saturday 18th –Tuesday 21st September, 2021.
2nd Round; Sarturday 30th October –Tuesday 2nd November, 2021.
Time: 7.00am daily
