MEMBERS OF EXECUTIVE AND BAR LEADERS OF NBA IKORODU BRANCH PAID A COURTESY VISIT TO THE CHIEF JUDGE OF LAGOS STATE.

 

On Thursday, 24th February 2022, the chairman, Mr. Abimbola Ojedokun led the members of his executive and Bar leaders of the NBA Ikorodu Branch on a courtesy visit to the Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State to discuss issues of the administration of justice in Ikorodu division and Lagos State. The visit was a fruitful one as they got positive answers to the requests of their administration on behalf of the good people of Ikorodu and his esteemed colleagues. Some of the positive outcomes of the visit include the following:

1. Approval for a Probate Registry in Ikorodu which will soon be operational. Good people of Ikorodu and lawyers practicing in Ikorodu will no longer be going to Ikeja and Lagos Courts for their probate matters.

2. Approval of a third High Court which will start sitting within three weeks from the date of the visit. This will go a long way in reducing the workload of Judges sitting at the High Court Ikorodu and give room for speedy dispensation of Justice.

3. The Hon. Chief Judge of Lagos State promised NBA Ikorodu Branch the support of Lagos State Judiciary and his support towards the realisation of the NBA Ikorodu Branch Bar Center project started by our administration.

4. The Hon. Chief Judge officially informed them about the multi-door courthouse being created at the Court Complex at Ita-Elewa, Ikorodu. This will give room for the amicable resolution of cases by parties without going through the whole stress of litigation.

5. The Hon. Chief Judge also promised that there is going to be a regular Bar and Bench forum where Judges and lawyers as stakeholders in the administration of justice would reason together on ways of achieving smooth administration of justice in Lagos State.

6. The Hon. Chief Judge promised that the Lagos State judiciary will do its best to ameliorate the sufferings of Lawyers in Lagos State on the problems being encountered at the electronic filling (e-filling) department which was largely caused by the aftermath of the Endsars protest and the resultant burning of the court complexes at Igbosere, Lagos. His Lordship, however, encourages lawyers to do the uploading of their processes on their own from their offices to reduce the workload of staff at the e-filling department and also encouraged NBA branches in Lagos State to organize training for their members by the judicial staff at the e-filling department.

7. They also used the opportunity of the visit to inform and invite the Hon. Chief Judge to the NBA Ikorodu Branch Law Week 2022 coming up between 13th May to 19th May 2022. 

In attendance at the meeting were the Hon. Chief Judge of Lagos State - Hon. Justice K. O. Alogba; the Hon. Administrative Judge of Ikeja Division - Hon. Justice A. O. Ipaye; the Chief Registrar of Lagos High Court - His Honour Mr. Elias; His Honour - Mrs. A. F. Azeez and other principal officers of Lagos State Judiciary. The following bar leaders accompanied me and my executives on the visit: Past Chairmen - Alhaji Nurudeen Ogbara, S. O. K. Shillings, and Levi Adkwaone. Other bar leaders are Mr. Akin Duyilemi and Mr. Sakiru Omolaja.
