THE ADDRESS OF THE BODY OF SENIOR ADVOCATES OF NIGERIA (BOSAN) AT THE SPECIAL COURT SESSION FOR THE CONFERMENT OF THE RANK OF SENIOR ADVOCATES OF NIGERIA ON THE 2023 SET OF SENIOR ADVOCATES OF NIGERIA DESIGNATES TAKING PLACE AT THE SUPREME COURT OF NIGERIA ON MONDAY 27TH NOVEMBER 2023.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria – the Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, GCON, other Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Honourable President of the Court of Appeal – Honourable Justice Monica Dongbam-Mensen, other Justices of the Court of Appeal, the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minster of Justice – Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and Chief Judges of the Federal and State High Courts, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association – Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, eminent Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Ladies and Gentlemen and other guests.

INTRODUCTION

I feel honoured to be given the opportunity to deliver this speech on behalf of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) on this occasion of the marking of the commencement of the 2023 Supreme Court legal year and the conferment of the prestigious rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) on the 58 conferees today. 

Accordingly, on behalf of BOSAN, I congratulate the Chief Justice of the Federation and the other eminent Justices of this Court on yet another legal year. May God almighty strengthen you with profound wisdom, pristine health and His Grace, in the discharge of your Constitutional duties. (Amen). In the same vein, I welcome every member of the bar to the 2023 legal year.

I also congratulate you, today’s 58 conferees, for your worthy achievements. I am aware that you had on Wednesday the 22nd day of November 2023 undergone a pre-conferment programme organised by BOSAN in Lagos. Accordingly, I will not re-iterate the duties and responsibilities expected of you in your new status. You have become leaders of the Bar, and you must ensure that the truest tenets and best traditions of the profession are upheld. I, therefore, welcome you to BOSAN.
