We often talk about the importance of finding your path, but sometimes, the most successful paths are those illuminated by someone who has walked them before. That is why I was so inspired by a recent email that landed in my inbox: a "Call for Mentors and Mentees" from the Mentoring Committee of the NBA, Lagos Branch.
This isn't just for 'senior' or 'junior' lawyers; it is an invitation to everyone in the Nigerian legal community, from those seeking that key piece of advice to those willing to share their life-earned wisdom. The core of this programme is all about growth, support, and elevating our shared professional journey.
If you are looking for that next step, as a Mentee, you can expect:
- A Personal Investment: Gaining essential guidance that goes beyond textbooks, tapping into the "wealth of wisdom of tested and trusted legal practitioners".
- Future-Proofing Your Career: Developing leadership, business acumen, and enhanced technical skills relevant to today’s rapidly changing industry.
But what resonated even more deeply was the call for Mentors. This is an opportunity to directly contribute to the legal profession's future, to share your expertise and experience, and leave a legacy. As Secretary Ajibola Salvador noted, it is about coming together to "uphold the standards of the legal profession".
Mentorship is a powerful, two-way street. It fuels the growth of the mentee and reinforces the knowledge and purpose of the mentor.
The deadline is fast approaching: 10 December 2025. Whether you are ready to learn or ready to lead, I urge you to seize this chance to make a lasting impact on your career or the career of a colleague.
