Following the adverse effect of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on the normal sittings of Courts of the Delta State Judiciary, the State Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Marshal Umukoro has extended the 2019/2020 Legal Year to September 4, 2020.
In a circular dated 13th May, 2020 from the office of the State Chief Judge, said that the 2019/2020 Legal Year which ought to have ended July 31, 2020 has been extended, and shall now end Friday, September 4, 2020. While the 2020/2021 new Legal Year shall commence on Monday, September 28, 2020.
It reads: " However, consequent upon the extraordinary times resulting from the ravaging world wide Convid-19 pandemic leading to a lock down, that has greatly affected the normal sittings of the Court, the imposition of physical/social distance and taking of urgent, time bound matters, final written addresses, bail application and other such matters that requires timeliness and delivery of judgements, the 2019/2020 Legal Year which ought to have ended on 31st July 2020 is hereby extended and shall now end on Friday 4th September, 2020. "
The annual vacation for the High Court of Justice, Delta State shall run from Monday 7th September to Friday 25th September, 2020.
The statement enjoined litigants, Legal Practitioners, stakeholders in the administration of justice and members of the public to take note of the development.
