NIGERIAN 61ST INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY: NIGERIAN LEADERS, WAKE UP TO YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES! | EWENODE O. WILLIAM ESQ

Today, Nigeria is 61 years after attaining independence from her Colonial master, Britain.

Just like several other Countries across the World that became independent from Britain in that era, Nigeria cannot claim that she is in league with some of those Countries that have attained the height of being described as developing Country today.

Many Nigerians have agreed that the bane of the Country is her Political Leaders across board and this seem to be correct because, like the family, the failure of the family tree is not attributed to the children but the head.

Today, millions of Nigerians cannot afford the basic needs of life, many are jobless, homeless, hopeless and highly disillusioned yet, we have had people in positions of authority from independence who ought not to lead or occupy political authority in Nigeria. 

In the Sixties and Seventies, Nigeria was at some point in the same league with countries that are referred to as Developed Countries today but where is our dear Country today?

Some years ago, Nigeria was a great Nation when compared to Singapore, India, Malaysia etc but where is my Country today?

The media space is not filled on daily basis with the news of thousands of jobs created, or of jobs opportunities or how fast the economy is growing in the right direction but we hear and see the stories of kidnapped cases, terrorists attacks, banditry, rape cases, armed robbery cases, accidents due to failure of governance, policy somersaults, failing economy, terrible infrastructures etc.

For today, many Nigerians would wish the Leaders of this Country at all levels to engage in self retrospection and meditation with sober commitment from a genuine heart to move this Country from the woods and not to engage in the traditional speech making as these speeches, instead of inspiring hope now becomes subject of unnecessary criticism.

If the Political Leaders of this Country must make speech, I advise that the speech must be inspiring to stir up the Nigerianess in us.

Despite all the pains we all go through on daily basis in this Country of ours, i wish to encourage all Nigerians not to despair, we will pull through, but let me shout Congratulations and happy 61st independence Anniversary to all Nigerians.
