ETI-OSA BAR FORUM SETS AGENDA FOR SANWO-OLU'S SIX MAN PANEL OF INQUIRY ON COLLAPSED IKOYI BUILDING OF 21 FLOORS.

We are now seized of the fact that the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has inaugurated a six-man Panel of Inquiry, on the 21-storey building which collapsed on Monday, 1st November, 2021 in Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Eti-Osa Local Government which is within the jurisdiction of our Forum.


According to media sources, the inauguration which took place at the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) building, Ikoyi, is part of efforts to unravel the cause of the incident.


The Panel is expected to investigate the circumstances around the incident within 30 days.


We are aware Members of the Panel include President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Toyin Ayinde, who is the Chairman of the Panel; a foremost structural engineer, Akintilo Idris Adeleke; a Partner with a leading architectural firm, Yinka Ogundairo; a foremost builder in the country, Godfrey O. Godfrey; a lawyer and property expert, Mrs. Bunmi Ibrahim and and Ekundayo Onajobi, the Secretary of the Panel.


We are also aware that the Panel would commence sitting today Friday, 5th November, 2021. 


In public interest, we urge the Panel to:

1. Issue summons on the General Manager of Lagos State Building Control Agency to explain the role of his agency in the certification of the building plans.


2. Issue summons on the Commissioner for Physical Planning to provide details on the conduct of approving authorities under his watch vis-a-vis the Building.


3. Issue summons on Prowess Engineering Limited,  Civil Engineering firm that withdrew from the site on the basis of their disagreement with the materials used for the Building.


4. Issue summons on the Directors of Fourscore Heights Limited, the property company of Mr. Osibona, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, who is still trapped within the Building.


5. Issue summons on Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) to explain their role.


We at the Eti-Osa Bar Forum would keep the Press aware of our next steps in seeking justice for the lost souls in the Building collapse and end to building collapse on our jurisdiction, which is fast becoming a regular feature with the second building collapse at Osapa London.
