UPDATE FROM MAGISTRATE COURT THREE, IKORODU PRO-BONO MATTER.

Case No: (IKD/ C/8/22 Commissioner of Police vs. John George 'M'  Aged 18 years

The business of the honourable court is for sentencing the convict; John George. Recall, that on the 31st, of June 2022 the court convicted the defendant of the two counts charge bothering felony and stealing preferred against him.

Consequently, the matter was earlier adjourned till the 7th, of July 2022, and further adjourned till today the 14th, of July 2022 for sentencing.

After due consideration of the facts in issue, relevant provisions of the administration of criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, the plea of allocutus, and the Lagos State sentencing guidelines, the court hereby sentences the convict to six (6) months imprisonment without an option of fine and same to run from the date of arraignment.

It should be noted that the convict was arraigned on the 17th, of February 2022, and has since been in the correctional facility to date. I immediately discussed with the officer of the correctional center to liaise with the Legal Registrar to sort out the issue of calculating the sentence, ensuring a releasing order is signed and the convict is released forthwith or ascertaining the date he is to be released.
