ASABA HIGH COURT CONDUCTS HYBRID VIRTUAL HEARING, STRIKES OUT MARRIAGE PETITION. | AGBARAGU TIMOTHY

Delta State Judiciary has recorded another milestone in her determined efforts to speedily dispense justice as a High Court in Asaba and has successfully conducted the first hybrid virtual hearing today. 

The hearing presided over by Honourable Justice Godwin Briki-Okolosi of High Court 2, Asaba, was on a decree of dissolution of marriage petition between Mr. Jude Akene and Mrs. Sarah Akene in suit No. A/40D/2022. 

During the hearing which was heard and determined through zoom, the Petitioner who resides in Ontario, Canada testified from abroad, praying the court to dissolve their eight years old marriage on the grounds of terrible unruly behaviour by the Respondent, and that the union had broken down irretrievably.

While the Counsel to the Petitioner, Professor Teddy Idiagbeta, Esq. tendered hard copies of exhibits to the court, the electronic exhibits were shown to Mr. Akene electronically in Canada for sighting.

Justice Briki-Okolosi struck out the petition on the application of the Petitioner's Counsel.

The Court commenced and concluded the matter today.

Counsel to the Petitioner, Professor Teddy Idiagbeta, Esq. applauded the Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Tessy Diai for the initiative, stating that Delta State Judiciary has taken virtual hearing to a different level.

Professor Idiagbeta who also commended G. B. Briki-Okolosi for pioneering the initiative asserted that the technological innovation would accelerate the hearing of trial and promote justice, even as he advocated for its extension to other judicial divisions across the state.
