PUBLIC FEUD ESCALATES: MAY YUL-EDOCHIE SENDS CEASE-AND-DESIST LETTER TO HER FORMER ADVOCATE.

Lagos, Nigeria – September 7, 2025 – The highly-publicised divorce case of actress May Yul-Edochie has taken a dramatic new turn, as she has served a former advocate with a cease-and-desist letter, threatening a lawsuit for a demand of ₦1 billion in damages.

The recipient of the letter is Mr. Emeka Ugwuonye, founder of Due Process Advocates (DPA), a social justice-focused NGO that provided legal case management and advocacy support in her divorce. Ugwuonye's public withdrawal of his services in July 2025 cited “persistent bullying and trolling” from a faction of May’s online supporters, widely known as "May Nation," as the primary reason for his decision. He claimed the hostile online environment and daily abuse made effective representation impossible.

The legal threat from May's new team accuses Ugwuonye of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and defamation, claiming he is weaponising privileged information from their past professional relationship. In response, Ugwuonye has publicly welcomed the threat of legal action, stating it will provide an opportunity to reveal the "truth" about the situation. He has launched a counter-narrative, alleging that May has been dishonest with the public and that she acts as a de-facto leader of the "vicious 'May Nation' organisation."

The controversy has brought the role of "May Nation" into sharp focus. The group, described as a decentralised "digital army" without formal leadership, has been noted for its aggressive advocacy and coordinated harassment campaigns against individuals deemed hostile to May's interests. Targets have reportedly included her estranged husband, his new lover, and former allies such as Linc Edochie, Anita Joseph, and Yinka Theisen, and now, Ugwuonye himself.

The public feud is further complicated by May's own words. In a recent podcast interview with Comedian A.Y., she publicly acknowledged and praised "May Nation," referring to them as a "formidable force" and her "worthy support system" that fights her "battles." This public endorsement is seen as potentially linking her to the group's actions, which could be leveraged by opposing counsel to argue that she is attempting to influence the court through a campaign of harassment. Analysts suggest this could lead to multiple lawsuits against May from individuals who have had a public falling out with her due to the online mob's activities.
